I will question you

The Lord Speaks Job 38

Then the Lord answered Job out of the storm. He said: “Who is this that darkens my counsel. “Who is this that obscures my plans with words without knowledge? Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me.” vs 1-3

“Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation?
    Tell me, if you understand.

Who marked off its dimensions?
Surely you know!

Who stretched a measuring line across it?

On what were its footings set, or who laid its cornerstone—while the morning stars sang together
and all the angels shouted for joy? vs 4-7

“Who shut up the sea behind doors when it burst forth from the womb, when I made the clouds its garment and wrapped it in thick darkness, when I fixed limits for it and set its doors and bars in place, when I said, ‘This far you may come and no farther; here is where your proud waves halt’? vs 8-11

“Do you hunt the prey for the lioness
and satisfy the hunger of the lions
when they crouch in their dens

know when the mountain goats give birth?
watch when the doe bears her fawn?
count the months till they bear?
know the time they give birth?

They crouch down and bring forth their young; their labor pains are ended. Their young thrive and grow strong in the wilds; they leave and do not return. 39: 1-4

Who let the wild donkey go free?
    Who untied its ropes?
I gave it the wasteland as its home, the salt flats as its habitat. It laughs at the commotion in the town; it does not hear a driver’s shout.
It ranges the hills for its pasture
and searches for any green thing. 39: 5-8
